Irene
Vaksberg came to America in 1979 from Russia. After
years of working as a hairstylist in area salons, she
opened up Vaksberg Salon in what used to be Penny’s,
the first beauty school in Los Angeles which dated back
to 1950. In keeping with the old Hollywood charm, Ms.
Vaksberg kept the original seated hairdryers but added
unique, handpicked furniture pieces functioning as workstations
thereby welcoming both the young and hip and a decades-long
clientele. Irene’s goal was to give women a place
to unwind and feel good about themselves, as well as
raise money for local charities and awareness within
her community. Her neighborhood wholeheartedly embraced
Irene’s new endeavors which included using the
high walls of her salon as an art gallery; supporting
local artists who otherwise would have no place to show
their talent. Inspiring others to give to worthy causes
has been another realized dream of Irene’s.
After years of successfully navigating the waters of
business ownership, Irene sold the salon in 2007 and
returned to LaPeer Beauty, one of the places she called
home at the beginning of her time in the LA salon world.
Everything has come full circle, and Irene feels so
blessed to be back with her LaPeer family.
Although her location has changed, Irene continues her
work with APLA, Kids with A Cause, Wings, Arthritis
Foundation, People Helping Homeless, Kids and Pets,
Adopt-A-Family, AIDS Walk, The View From Here, Muscular
Dystrophy, The LA Gay and Lesbian Center, and more.
Irene Vaksberg has always fought for the underdog, the
needy and those who have yet to have their own dreams
realized. She has a huge heart and the compassion of
an angel. Irene Vaksberg is the American Dream.
